I'm facing a problem here. I tried the to open an excel file (.xls) which was attached in a Calendar Item. Pilote imprimante canon i-sensys mf3010 driver.
On 1 PC, it opens automatically with the Excel application and thus the user is able to edit and save. On another PC, it opens in the browser and the user is unable to edit / save the file. Initially, I tried and thought that it's user rights issue but apparantly, it is not. How can I make the.xls to open in excel by default?

When some users click on the excel document link in the document library it opens correctly in the client app (Excel 2007) howver other users who are also using Excel 2007 it wants to open the file using excel services which gives the error message '.features are not supported by Excel Services'. I have verified the setting in the Adanced Settings for the document library are 'Open in the client application' is checked.
Also verified that 'client integration' is selected as 'yes' in the zone authentication settings. This is driving my users nuts.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Grant Jackson. Hi, yesterday I found the reason for the issue that people with only read permissions can only get the browser version of a XSLX file instead of downloading the file or open.XSLX documents locally in their client application anymore.
It always opened in the web browser. A base permission in permission level 'READ' was missing.
The base permission 'Open items handler' was not checked. OpenItems => View the source of documents with server-side file handlers. In the browser it is the base permission 'open items handler'. If you check this box in the read permission then it works perfectly fine. Best Regards Sven.
After upgrading to SharePoint 2013, we found that this error occurred most often when users were upgraded from Office 2007 to a newer version of Office -- and it was installed with default settings. There are some settings that need to be tweaked, otherwise the new version of office dlls will override the SharePoint dlls. It can also be from running IE browser in the 64-bit mode -- it needs to be 32-bit. If can come from installing Lync 2013 with Office 2007 or Office 2010. In most cases, doing a repair of Outlook can fix the issue. A few times we've had to tun off 'Office Shared Features' and 'Office Tools in Lync 2013' and then do the repair using the installation files.
