Upgrade Video Card For Mac 1.1

Hey everyone! I got 2 questions here about video cards and what not, so let me get started. Number one: will the ATI radeon HD 5770 work in a mac pro 1,1 (2006) model? If it uses both power connectors I really don't mind Because I'm not planing to run more then one video card in my mac pro. Does anyone know or have links to where I could see if anyone has tested this?

Number two: Why is apple still selling the ATI radeon HD 4870 for $419 and the 5770 for just 249$? I mean the 5770 is clearly a better card but yet the 4870 is still more expensive? Anyways it might be a little to early to be asking this, but I'm trying to upgrade my nivida 7300 GT because is starting to mess up on me!

So hopefully this does work and I can just buy one of this cards and call it a day. How long can you afford to wait to get a card? If you need one now then you should get 4870. I have personally installed 8 of them in 8 separate 1.1 macs and they are great. If you fell that you can afford the4 to 6 week wait and that is worth the extra $100 in price and the risk of whether or not the 5770 has 32 bit EFI firmware.

Then wait it out. If you feel like you can wait even longer then check back here and other mac hardware forums once the 5770s start shipping so you can see if they do in fact support your computer. Ok, I'm a bit of a newb on the Mac hardware. I currently have the nVidia 7300 GT and am wanting to add a 3rd monitor. I purchased the 5770 in hopes that this would work but the Mac isn't even detecting it.

I have built several PC's from scratch (yes, Windows for many years - I'm converted now) but the Mac is just a liiiittle different. Sooo, how do I power up this video card as it appears to have a 6 pin adapter. I just don't know where to get the power from in this Mac. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm hoping once I apply power to this card the system will see it. I purchased the 5770 Did you buy the Apple version?
