Driver For Mac Os X 10.6 Wd My Passport
Hi, I'm not the most tech savvy person so bear with me. About 3 years ago I purchased an external hard drive called WD (Western Digital) My Passport. Today, it appears it's only formatted for windows and the hard drive itself doesn't even look the same.
Instead I have opted for which I plan to purchase asap. This looks exactly the same as my My Passport and the specifications say it can be reformatted for mac so I am assuming my mac can at least read it for me to do that. The problem is it doesn't say what version of OSX. I currently have Snow Leopard on my Imac and Yosemite on my macbook. If anyone knows anything about how this work please help! The version of Mac OS is completely irrelevant. As long as the drive is visible to the Mac you can format it.
I have a WD My Passport for Mac drive, a MacBook Pro 2,2, and Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard. I didn’t use this drive for backup purposes, I actually stored important files in it. I have a backup of the most sensitive files in it, but I will still take m several hours to get everything working again.

You should be able to format the My Passport drive to Mac file format as well. The main factor is if the Drive Utility on the Mac can recognise the drive. If it can then it shouldn't matter what file format the drive currently has on it you should be able to format for the Macs. And what do you mean by the drive doesn't look the same?
Do you mean what is listed by Finder (or not depending on the file format) or physically. I use Macs at work and have used several USB drives with them. The only issue I have ever had is with a Toshiba drive that, for some reason we never did figure out, the Mac just could not see. So Drive Utility could not format it as it didn't know it existed. But with other drives I don't bother looking at the specs to see if it is Mac or Windows, I have yet to find a drive that the Mac can recognise and list in Drive Utility that it hasn't been able to format with the Mac file system.
