Mac App Store Update For Os X Snow Leopard

I have an old Mac, currently running Mac OS X 10.6.8 'Snow Leopard' that I must upgrade to OS X 10.10 'Yosemite'. It has 8 GB RAM. The 'About this Mac' gives me the following information: Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 Processor: 3.6 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 The 'more info' gives me (among others): Model name: iMac Model identifier iMac 11,3 I first did the 'Software Updates' which was ready in a few minutes. When I try the update to Yosemite, though, I get the spinning cursor and it stays that way. I thought that maybe it was just a huge download, so I left it on for the night. The next day, after more than 20 hours, I still saw the spinning cursor. This Mac belongs to the workplace.
